With heavy hearts, the family of Albert “Abby” Speight announces his passing, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 18, 2021. Born in Saint John on August 9, 1939, he was the son of the late Lorne and Marion (Gray) Speight, and the loving husband of Myrtelle (Taylor) Speight for 57 years. Abby was a sheet metal worker by trade, and a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers' International Association #437. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was well respected within the fishing community. He won a master angler award for catching a record brown trout. Simply put, Abby was absolutely “top drawer”, and no one will ever be able to fill his shoes. Along with his wife Myrtelle, Abby is survived by his sons David and Travis (Debbie), brother Clinton (Sandra), grandchildren Johnny, Matthew, and Mallorie, as well as great-grandchildren Willis, Elaine, and Eloise. Along with his parents, Abby was pre-deceased by his brother Bernard (Bernie), and sister Marina Meehan. He will forever be in our hearts.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). In keeping with Abby’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service, and a private family graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Online condolences may be placed at www.fundyfuneralhome.com
