William Francis "Bill" Lennan Obituary

The family of Bill Lennan wish to announce his passing on February 20, 2019 at the age of 85.

Dad was born to Arnold and Bessie Lennan on August 7, 1933, the youngest of seven children; Eleanor, Chrissie, Betty, Mingy, John, and Marion. He was raised on a farm in beautiful Carters Point on the Kingston Peninsula, New Brunswick, where his grandparents lived close by. In his early years, he loved spending time with them and shares fond memories and funny stories in Aunt Betty’s book “Carters Point Memories”.

He and our mother, Shirley Silverberg, married in 1954 and shortly after began their family; children Ruth, Mark, and John. They lived a short time in Ontario for employment, before returning to New Brunswick leading them to the ownership of a dairy farm in Salisbury. He enjoyed working with his horses, gardening, and farm life. In 1980, they returned to his homestead that was near and dear to his heart where our parents cared for his mother in her final years.

Family, friends, and grandchildren have special memories of Dad; winter sleigh rides, old fashioned home-made ice cream and oatmeal brown sugar fudge, bonfires at the shore, burgers on the griddle, haying in the fields, and rides on the back of the truck. Many hours of work went into creating “Horse Farming Days”, an event they hosted for 15 years where proceeds were graciously donated to the IWK. People enjoyed Dad’s quick wit and there was a steady stream of folks dropping by for a visit in the porch or to buy fresh eggs.

Dad was disciplined and diligently worked and maintained the family property for over 35 years. When once asked why his grandparents settled here, he replied with great pride, “Could you find a better place?”

Gampa will be remembered by daughter Ruth (Rex Tracy) of Fredericton, daughter-in-law Catherine Lennan of Dartmouth, and son John (Laureen) of Carters Point; grandchildren Alicia (Cory), Christina (Judd), Kayla (Clayton), Andrea (Marcus), Peter (Cheryl), Christopher, and Justin; great grandchildren Sophia, Katrina, and Carter; sisters Mingy Harriman of Bangor and Marion Hamilton of Grandbay-Westfield; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by is loving wife Shirley, oldest son Mark, sisters Eleanor, Christina, Elizabeth, and brother John.

We extend thanks to the medical staff and care workers of Shannex Embassy Hall for their kindness and compassion shown to Dad over the past two years.

At Dad’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at Harding’s Point Cemetery in the spring with our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the IWK Health Center, Alzheimer Society, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
