Walter E. Colwell

With heavy hearts, the family of Walter “Sonny” Colwell, formerly of Petitcodiac, announces his unexpected passing, which occurred at home on November 29th, 2017. Walter was born in Saint John on February 28, 1937, and was the loving husband of the late Rose “Sammy” Colwell. During his working years, Walter owned and operated W.E Colwell Electrical Co.; his love of farming would take him away from his business for several years. He later sold his farm, and then returned to work as an Electrician, with IBEW Local 502.  In his spare time, Walter enjoyed playing the fiddle with several groups, helped with building the Marco Polo, and was a Shriner. Walter was also a member of the Zion Lodge #21 AF&AM, and the IBEW Local 502 Retirees Club.

Walter is survived by his children Walter K. Colwell (Judy O’Neill), Wendy Quigg (Brian), both of Saint John, and Robbie Colwell (Kari-Ann Hallett) of Fredericton, cherished grandchildren Nikki Colwell, Brandon Colwell, Mitch Quigg and Riley Quigg, brother Edward Colwell (Sheila) of Bathurst, sister-in-law Dyan Ball (Johnny)  as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his beloved wife Rose, Walter was pre-deceased by his mother Virginia, chosen parents Ken and Gen Colwell, and a sister, June Strong.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8. A Masonic Service will be held on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. A celebration of Walter’s life will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m, from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Private family interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Saint John SPCA – Animal Rescue or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
