It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Vera Edith (McDade) McKinnon which occurred at Bobby’s Hospice on Monday, November 4th, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Born 1925, in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late William and Edith (Weagle) McDade. In her earlier years, Vera did private nursing before working as a PSW at Rocmaura Nursing Home for 15 years. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and spending time at her summer home in Cumberland Point, Grand Lake. Vera was a devoted mother and her kindness and thoughtfulness brought joy to all who knew her.
Vera is survived by her daughters Joan Clowater (Cameron) of Burton, NB, Shirley Gilks (Boyd) of Doaktown, NB, Dawn O’Keefe (David) of Quispamsis, Allison Mowery (Scott) of Hampton; grandchildren Lisa (Paul), Tanya (Scott), Nicole (Andrew), Corey (Zulma), Amy (Josee), Mark (Diann); great grandchildren Megan, Noah, Luke, Kian, Katie, Emma, Anthony, Olive; great-great granddaughter Lexi; best friend Dawn Dyer; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. Besides her parents, Vera was predeceased by her husband Harold, son George, infant brother Matthew, brother Stanley and sister Ella.
A special thank you to Bobby’s Hospice and the staff of 3D South SJRH for making Vera comfortable during her final days.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Saturday, November 9th from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel at 3 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Vera may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
