Ruth Bailey Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ruth Priscilla (Windsor) Bailey announce her passing on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018 at Shannex, Quispamsis.

Ruth was born in Lockeport, Nova Scotia on August 5th, 1922 to the late Reverend Cater and Nellie A. (Colpitts) Windsor.  She graduated from Saint John High School in 1940 and took a Secretarial course at Vocational School in 1941.

Ruth had many notable achievements during her well-lived life.  She held the position of Executive Secretary to the Chairman of the Board and President of NBTel for eighteen years.

She was President of New Brunswick Chapter 51 of the Telephone Pioneers and, following her retirement after 44 years of service at NBTel, she served a two-year term as Vice-President, Region One of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Ruth was a member of Silver Falls United Church and served as President and Life Member of the United Church Women.  Ruth’s most recent achievement was in 2016 when, at the age of 94, she wrote a book entitled “My Recollections Regarding Cater and Nellie” (a 26 page story about her parents and her life growing up in the 1920’s and 30’s).

Ruth was a talented, artistic person and excelled in many forms of art.  In her spare time, she handcrafted miniature roses made from bread crumb dough, and she crocheted many, many lap-robes which she donated to the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Ruth took up painting in her later years and became a well-known artist in Saint John. Ruth was a Life Member of the Saint John Art Club and also a member of the Lehigh Acres Art Club in Florida.

Ruth also had a great love for photography and travel, but her greatest love was her son, Fred, with whom she had a very special bond. Ruth’s heart was broken when he passed away in February, 2018.

Ruth is survived by her two brothers: Bruce Windsor (Joye – deceased) and George Windsor (Emily); and one sister: Rev. Jean Sherwood (Rev. A. G. Sherwood – deceased) and their families. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Susan and granddaughter Amelia.

Ruth is predeceased by her husband Ames Edmund, her son D. Frederick S., her sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Rev. Victor Jackson and her infant grandson Lee Everett.

Ruth is resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John.  Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00.  Ruth’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Silver Falls United Church, 840 Loch Lomond Road, Saint John.  Interment will follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens, 715 Latimore Lake Road, Saint John, followed by a reception at Fundy Funeral Home.

Ruth’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the staff at Jubilee Hall, Concord Hall, and Embassy Hall of Shannex who have taken such good care of Ruth.
