Rose-Aline Marie Richard

Richard, Rose-Aline M. (1941 – 2018), Hanwell, NB – Surrounded by family, Rose-Aline M. (Richard) Richard, wife of the late Alcide J. Richard, passed away peacefully at the DECH in Fredericton, NB on Sunday, July 29, 2018.  Born June 11, 1941 in Kent Lake, NB, she was the daughter of the late Julien and Lodia (Chevarie) Richard. 

Raised as one of 13 children, Rose moved to Saint John to work as a nanny shortly after becoming of age, and in July 1965 she and Alcide were married and quickly began their own family.  Rose’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, staying home to raise her 5 children in Rowley, NB.  Rose was dedicated to her family, ensuring they were happy and well cared for, even as she fought and eventually won her battle with stomach cancer in her mid-thirties.  While raising her children, Rose was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and faithfully attended St. Joseph’s parish in Loch Lomond for over 35 years.  During summer months, Rose and her children would often stay with family in Black’s Harbour, spending hours picking blueberries and making pies.  Rose could often be seen canvassing her neighbourhood in support of the Diabetes Association and put her exceptional knitting skills to good use, gifting baby blankets and sweater sets to family and friends.  Following Alcide’s retirement they opened a small ice-cream stand next to their home, serving both locals and tourists before illness forced them to put their scoops away permanently.  Shortly after Alcide’s passing in 2007, Rose moved to Harvey Station where she made new friends and treasured her lunch dates at Blacks Restaurant with her daughter Francine. Rose was known to enjoy the odd scratch ticket or two and was always eager for a good game of “tens”.   In more recent years, Rose lived comfortably with her youngest son Claude and his family in Hanwell, NB. 

Rose is lovingly survived by her children; Yvon (Emily) of Quispamsis, Monique Scribner (Blaine Reid) of New Maryland, Francine Bull (Tony) of Yoho Lake,  Eric (Lori) of Hampton and Claude (Rachelle) of Hanwell; grandchildren - Michael, Suzanne (Chris Barry), Kurtis, Kathleen, Laura, Jasmine, Evan, Traviss, Ryan, Avery, Julia, Cohen, Zachary, Luc and Xavier; sisters – Rose-Delima Daigle (late Fidele), Dorina Gates (Edward), Emilee Pellerin (late Danny), Cecile Dickie, and Angela Stewart (Ralph); brothers – Zenon (Ida), Azade (Delora), Andre (Zelande), and Leon (Sandra); special in-laws - Maria L’Abbe (Guy), Ferdnand (Claudette) and Rheal; several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents Julien and Lodia and husband Alcide, Rose was pre-deceased by her sister Sr. Marie-Anne Richard, brothers Delphis (Adeline) and Theophile (Linda), and brother in-law Adrien (Elva).

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of the DECH in Fredericton for their excellent care and compassion during Rose’s stay.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Fundy Funeral Home, Westmorland Road, Saint John, with visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4pm and 6-to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.  A funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel following visitation on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of NB, Canadian Cancer Society or to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
