Ramon Garcia Tapanes

The passing of Ramon Garcia Tapanes occurred on August 7, 2019, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, following a lengthy and hard-fought battle against cancer.  He was born in 1966 in Guines, Cuba, the son of Francisco Ramon Garcia and the late Maria Josefa Tapanes.

Ramon was a Naval Engineer with the Cuban Navy, and after coming to Canada he worked as a chef with Holly's Restaurant before joining Atlantic Towing as a Marine Engineer.  He spent a significant portion of his life on the ocean, traveling to Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

He was extremely generous, constantly putting others before himself.  Ramon always enjoyed the opportunity to cook for his friends and was a gracious host at his parties.  He was passionate about dominos, music, and sports (especially hockey, baseball and soccer).  Ramon also stayed on top of current events in the world, and is remembered as being skilled in philosophical and political debate.

He is survived and will be forever loved by his son, Marcos Ramon of Hampton; stepson Shane (and spouse Antoinette) of Oshawa; his daughter Claudia Liz (and spouse Roilan) of Houston, Texas; his brothers Eduardo and Manolo, both of Guines, Cuba; his grandchildren Diego and Emmanuel; and several cousins and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424), on Saturday, August 10, 2019, from 6-8 pm.  The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at 2:00 pm, from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances made to the John T. McMillan Jr. Memorial Foundation would be appreciated by his family.
