Murray Gillcrist Obituary

With sadness but appreciation for a long life, well lived, the family of Murray Weldon Gillcrist announce his passing at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, one day before his 100th birthday on July 3, 2018.  He was born in St. Martins, NB to the late Graydon and Dora (Brown) Gillcrist and was the loving husband to the late Leona (Langille) Gillcrist.

Murray served as an engineer with the British Army overseas for 3 years, and when he returned to Canada, he held many varied occupations throughout his life, most notably working as a commissionaire and working in sales.    He loved travelling and through his work as a salesman, he won many awards and was able to travel the world. He was a member of the Twin Seas Trailer Club which allowed he and his wife to travel anywhere you could drive to.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53 and was proud to have served his country.  He was a proud man, who stood strong and tall, lived spontaneously, loved to cook and watch curling and baseball, loved to tinker and fix things, but above all, he just loved to spend time with  his family.  He was a pillar of his family, and took great pride in the fact that he had such a large family.   Murray put family first and his adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren will never forget him.

He is survived by his daughters; Wenda (Gordon) Winchcombe, Joan (Randy) Gillcrist-Clarke, grandchildren; Wesley (Andrea), Sheryl (Duane), Aaron (KT), David (Kate), Sarah (Ethan), Lisa (Jason), Jeremy, great grandchildren; Gracen, Adam (Ally), Neil (Leeanne), Hunter, Lorelai, Elena, Tyler and Michael, great great grandchildren; Isaac, Ella and Baby Titus soon to be born.  As well, he is survived by his brothers; William (Rena) and Ward (Shirley), sisters; Jessie, Audrey, and Mildred, sisters-in-law Barb Jackson, Elsie Gillcrist and Robie Gillcrist, brother-in-law Eugene, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife Leona, he was predeceased by his brothers; Roy, Clayton, Harvey, Douglas and Lawrence, sisters Helen and Dorothy, sisters-in-law Freida, Marcella and Alma Gillcrist and brothers-in-law; Stanley, Greg, Frank, Doug, Aubrey and John.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-6pm, with a Legion Tribute Service to be held at 7pm.  A funeral service will take place on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 2pm from the St. Martins Baptist Church with interment to follow in the St. Martins Community Cemetery.  Memorial donations made in Murray’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
