Muriel J. (McCarthy) Edwards

In her 100th year, Muriel J. Edwards, loving wife of the late Gordon D. Edwards, passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Loch Lomond Villa, with her daughter at her side. Born in Saint John, NB on August 26, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Timothy C. “Harry” and Blanche (Crozier) McCarthy. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her siblings Joyce McCarthy, Donald McCarthy and George McCarthy; son-in-law John Weeks; brothers-in-law Les Burgess and James Gamble.

Muriel worked as a Teacher at Upper Golden Grove, Summerville and Baywater’s schools. Along with her husband they owned and operated Edwards General Store in Summerville for 19 years. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, square dancing and trips to Florida with Gordon for 20 years.

She is survived by her son Brian Edwards (Martha) and their special niece Kathleen Verner; daughter Rosalie Weeks; cherished grandchildren Allison Burns (Jason) and Sheila Weeks, great grandchildren Eric and Keegan Burns and Hayden and Seth Bonnar; sisters Isabelle Burgess and Shirley Gamble; sisters-in-law Betty McCarthy and Audrey (Edwards) Rushton (Donald); and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home for their care, compassion and kindness shown to both our mother and to us.

Following cremation, visitation will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 1 to 3 pm followed by the service at 3 pm in the chapel. Reception to follow. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Remembrances in memory of Muriel made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Loch Lomond Villa Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
