It is with great sadness the family of the late Michael Lewis Horgan announces his passing which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, January 18, 2019. Michael was born to Rose (Melanson) Horgan and the late Jerome Horgan on April 23, 1953 in Saint John.
Along with his mother Rose, Michael is survived by his loving daughter Katie Horgan and sister Elizabeth Horgan (Andrew Cusack) and their children Luke and Rose Cusack. Mike is also survived by his Aunt Marie (Horgan) Crawford of Toronto, Uncle Abby (Barb) Melanson of Quispamsis and Aunt Bertha Horgan of Saint John, as well as several cousins.
Mike had a long career as a Power Engineer working at the Canada Permanent Building, District 8 (Anglophone South) School Board and Saint John Shipbuilding, finishing his career at the Ganong’s Chocolate Factory in St. Stephen. Mike was the establishing owner of Valley Vineyard and Brew and operated that business for several years in Rothesay.
Mike was a man who believed in education and loved to read. Over the years he learned about various topics that tweaked his interest; including Irish history, sailing, languages and more. Mike was particularly proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed studying about Ireland and its native Gaelic language. Mike was also a baseball fan and enjoyed a love of music.
Michael is predeceased by his cherished wife Krista Downs and his father Jerome Horgan.
Michael will be resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road on Thursday, January 24, 2019 between 2:00- 4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Friday Jan 25 at 10:00 am, interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring. The family would like donations made to the Cathedral Restoration Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or donor’s choice.
