Marie Fernande (Guay) Verner of Mt Pleasant Avenue East passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family members November 30, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John.

Marie was the loving wife of the late Herman Verner for 57 years and daughter of the late Albert and Angeline Guay.

She is survived by her 4 sons, Albert Verner (Betty), Ken Verner (Marlene), Mike Verner (Marilyn), Gerry Verner (Anne), 5 daughters, Anne Maloney (Ron), Jean Melvin (Hal), Linda Magee (Jamie), Barb Williams (Greg) and Jennifer Duplessis (Sean).  She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and siblings Irene Doyle, Joan Doyle, Florence Verner and Albert Guay, and predeceased by brothers Gerard Guay and Francis Guay.

Her small stature was in stark contrast to her enormous impact on her large and extended family.  Marie dedicated her life to raising her family and was intensely proud of all of the children and grandchildren.  Her biggest gift to the family was her kindness, generosity and ability to connect with anyone who met her.  Marie always had a cup of tea and some sort of treat for anyone that entered her door.  She was overly kind and respectful to everyone she came in contact with and never had anything but positive words to say about anyone.  She also had an unbelievable gift of interacting with children by treating them as equals in her conversation and interactions with them.  She not only raised her children, but was like a second Mom to many of the neighbour’s children and nieces and nephews who loved to come and visit her.

Marie was born in Saint John on June 14, 1929 and was a lifelong resident of East Saint John.  After residing for nearly 60 years on Mt Pleasant Avenue, Marie moved to the Loch Lomond Villa for several years before moving back to her neighborhood on Mt Pleasant Avenue to reside at Dobbelsteyn’s Care Home.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4th from 2 – 8pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Stella Maris Catholic Church at 12:05 PM on Monday, December 5th, 2016.  Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Reception will follow the burial at the Stella Maris church hall.
