It is with sadness but a sense of relief that she is not suffering anymore, that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Ann (Legere) James on October 11, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Saint John on March 6, 1959 to the late Allard and Christine (Gobble) Legere and was the loving wife to husband Darrell James.
Marg was a caregiver by trade and by nature. She started as a Geriatric Aid, then became an RNA and then achieved her RN and then she received her Bachelor of Nursing; nursing was her passion. Learning was something that she never wanted to stop doing, so any chance she had to broaden her knowledge and advance herself, she took. In 2016 she won the Enterostomal Therapy Nurse of the Year Award which is a Canada Wide award that she was nominated for by an adoring patient. One of many. She was President of the Dragon Boat Festival “Breasts Ahoy” team and a member of the Fundy Coast Campers RV Group. She was very driven and she was very social - to know her was to like her. She had many friends and made friends very easily. She would do anything she could to make another person’s day better, even if she didn’t really know them, that was just the kind of person she was. She was kind and caring and sweet and generous. She was the fun Nanny, who took her grandchildren to Florida with her and took them camping and would take them for the weekends just to spend time with them. She was the family backbone and while she was taken far too soon and will be deeply missed, what amazing memories she has left us with.
In addition to her loving husband Darrell, she is survived by her children, Steve (Jocelyn), Matthew, David (Amy) and Crystal (Clay); grandchildren, Jacob, Kelsee, Destinee, Hailey and Nash; brothers Mac (Holly), Mike (Brenda) and Brian (Cindy) Legere; sisters Susan (Wayne) Dealy and Tina (Steve) Gallant, mother-in-law, Audrey James, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Norman Legere, sister Janet Cosman, brother-in-law Lewis James, nephew Stephen Legere, and father-in-law Ralph James.
Marg’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff, volunteers and doctors of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, to the Extra Mural staff – especially Sam- and to the Oncology Department and all of the doctors who cared for her through her illness.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-8pm and Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11am from St. Ann’s Catholic Church (135 Simpson Drive) with interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
