It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ludger Harold O’Brien which occurred at his home on Saturday, December 7th, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Born 1937, in Lorne, NB, he was the son of the late Harold and Opal (Godin) O’Brien. Ludger moved to Saint John in 1964, and months later he began working at the Irving Paper Mill. He continued his career at the Mill for 37 years, retiring in 2002. Ludger loved to hunt and fish and was an avid Montreal Canadiens Fan. He enjoyed playing bingo, cards, crib and taking trips to the Casino.
Ludger is survived by his son Darren O’Brien of Saint John; daughter Delores O’Brien-MacNab (Richard) of Saint John; brothers Pius O’Brien of Jacquet River, NB, Terry O’Brien of Sunnyside, NB, George O’Brien of Lorne, NB, Jim Godin (Ginnie) of Vernon, BC; sisters Dell O’Brien (Lorne) of Montreal, Yvonne Kaufman (Bob) of Ohio; grandchildren Brendan, Courtney and Conor; as well as several nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members. Besides his parents, Ludger was predeceased by his wife Barbara, infant sister Simone, brother Carl and sister Anne.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Wednesday, December 11th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, December 12th at 1 p.m. followed by an interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ludger may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
