Lois Merritt

After a fearless and courageous battle with cancer, the family of Lois Elizabeth Merritt sadly announce her passing that occurred on Friday December 28, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Toronto, ON in May of 1969, she was the daughter of the late Willard Smith and Frances Merritt.

Lois was the founding member of Fresh Start where she worked tirelessly as an advocate for women and their families. Her passion for helping others showed no boundaries; in turn she became deeply respected and admired by those in her community and was an inaugural recipient of the YWCA Woman of Distinction award.  

She will be deeply missed by her husband Mike Carson; son Micheal Merritt and step-son Chris Carson; her brother Daniel Merritt and all of her co-workers at Fresh Start especially Mel.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff of 3BN Palliative Care, in particular Cheyanne, who was so kind and compassionate to Lois and our whole family.

Following cremation, visitation will be held at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road on Thursday January 3, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of her Life will be held in at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday January 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. The family respectively decline flowers and ask that any donations in her memory be made to Fresh Start Services.
