Linda A. Matthews

After a lengthy battle with cancer, and her family by her side, we announce the passing of Linda Anne (Crawford) Matthews which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, September 9th, 2018.  Born 1946, in Montreal, QC, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Geraldine (Butler) Crawford.  Linda graduated from St. Vincent’s High School in 1965.  In her earlier years, she worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia.  Linda became a stay at home mom, raising her 4 children.  She later worked as a housekeeper at both Stella Maris and Assumption Church.  Linda loved cooking and family gatherings, her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She enjoyed attending Saturday brunch with family and friends and she always looked forward to Football Sunday, overseeing “NFL Central” at their home.  Linda cherished every evening that she spent watching the sunset with Jim..  

Linda is survived by her loving and devoted husband Jim of 52 years; sons John Matthews (Kim) of Quispamsis, Peter Matthews (Carole Boucher) of Saint John; daughters Jennifer Ellis (Andrew) of Quispamsis, Ellen Cole (Jo) of Saint John; grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Gregory, Abigail, Luke, Julia, Liam, Isaac, Patrick and Sarah; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Thursday, September 13th from 2 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception (91 Waterloo St.) on Friday, September 14th at 12:10 p.m. followed by an interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Donations in memory of Linda may be made to Crohn’s & Colitis Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
