John Gerard "Gerry" Cosgrove

1938-2018 Surrounded by love with his favorite music playing in the background, John passed the same way he lived, quietly and without fuss. Husband of Pauline (Boyd) Cosgrove for 54 years; son of the late John Patrick and Bertha (Mercer) Cosgrove. Along with his loving wife Pauline, John is survived by his daughter Meredith LeBlanc (Marc) and son Jeffrey Cosgrove (Victoria Sowers) grandchildren Aaron of Halifax and Ethan of St. Stephen; brothers Arthur (Jeanette) and Danny (Suzanne); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Saint John, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Maine and Ireland. Along with his parents, John was predeceased by his sister Patricia.   He was a devoted family man known as Grampy to his grandchildren, “King of the Cosgroves” to his family and “Mr. C” to his children’s friends. John was born and raised in Saint John, and started his career with the Bank of Nova Scotia in New Glascow, NS and retired from Strescon Ltd. in Saint John in 2000, after 38 years of service. Active in Church and community, he was a lector and Eucharist minister, coach of minor league hockey and baseball, soft ball umpire and volunteered for various groups including Meals on Wheels, Cancer Society, Hospice and was a member of Jack Kidd Council 755 United Commercial Travelers. John loved all sports especially baseball and hockey. He was a true fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. In his younger days he bowled in several leagues at St. Peters and Bowlarama. He loved his family and friends, country music and his keyboard. A voracious reader, solver of crossword puzzles and his nightly game of solitaire.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road with visitation on Sunday May 6, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. UCT Tribute Service to be held at 6:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo street on Monday May 7, 2018 at 12:10 p.m., followed by a reception at the Fundy Funeral Home. Private family interment to be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. Donations in John’s memory can be made to Meals on Wheels.
