John V. Stacey

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Vernon Stacey which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, October 30th, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.  Born June 14th, 1923, in Saint John, he was the son of the late John H. and Stella (Hickey) Stacey.  John worked as a Sugar Boiler at the Atlantic Sugar Refinery for 41 years before retiring in 1987.  In 1939, John served with the Honour Guard for King George VI.  From 1940 – 1945 he served in the Canadian Waters and United Kingdom with the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII.  John was very proud to serve his country.    

John is survived by his children Sharon of Saint John, Shelly (Rick) of Hampton, Terry (Nancy) of Saint John and Scott (Catherine) of Saint John; brother Andrew (Louise) of Saint John; sister-in-law Nancy (Stefen) of Saint John; grandchildren Crystal, Marla, Craig, Ashley, Kyle, Jason, Jenna, Atticus, Odin, Laughlin, Brent, Michelle and Christa; 17 great grandchildren; special friend and caregiver Michael Donnelly; 2 nieces and 4 nephews. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce and sisters Ethel and Mary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Sunday, November 4th from 2 to 8 p.m. with a Tribute to a Veteran service beginning at 7 p.m.  A Funeral Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Monday, November 5th at 10 a.m. followed by an interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Donations in memory of John may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or Bobby’s Hospice.
