Surrounded by her loving family, Joan Delane Deering, wife of the late Douglas Deering, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born in Saint John, NB on April 13, 1944 she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Pearl (Rooney) Northrup. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Ronald Northrup and Kenneth Northrup; son-in-law Barry Savoy; brothers-in-law Bob Garland and Greg Deering.
Joan had worked for NBLC for 25 years, retiring in 2000, she was a member of East Saint John Jarvis Bay Legion. Joan enjoyed playing TV Bingo with her friends, spending time with her family and taking her grandchildren shopping.
She is survived by her sons Douglas Jr. (Colleen) and Richard (Krista) both of Saint John; daughter Deborah Savoy of Newmarket, ON; brother Brian Northrup (Heather) of Quispamsis; sister Norma Garland of Moncton; cherished grandchildren Tricia Phillips (Matt), Sarah Deering (Shawn Edison), Rachel Deering, Christian Deering, Brandon Savoy, Olivia Kyle and Alexa Kyle; great grandchildren Mercedez, Anthony and Audrey; niece Haley Northrup and several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Following cremation, visitations will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Stella Maris Church on Friday, July 14 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery.
Remembrances in memory of Joan may be made to the Bobby’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
