Horst Ernst Willi Weiss

It is with profound sadness that the family announces, after a courageous battle with cancer, the peaceful passing of Horst at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, September 29th, 2017. Born in 1939, in Graal- Muritz, Germany, he was the son of the late Ernst & Freda (Boguslawski) Weiss. He immigrated to Canada in 1969 where he began his lifelong career on the water. Starting as a deck-hand on fishing vessels in Nova Scotia he worked his way up to Captain with Atlantic Towing and Horst finished his career as Captain with Cooke Aquaculture in 2016. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. His infectious smile and sense of humour will be dearly missed.

Horst is survived by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 48 years Joan (LaPierre); sons Horst and Peter, daughter-in law Tiffany; special granddaughter Tori; sisters Margot & Helga and niece Sylvie all of Dresden, Germany and his furry buddies Jake, Coby, Charlie, Riley and Oscar. He was predeceased by his parents. A special thank you to Cooke Aquaculture and to our four angels Liana Long, Connie Dunnett, Pam Carey and Jacqueline King.

In keeping with Horst’s wishes there will be visitation for family and friends Tuesday, October 3rd from 6:00-8:00pm at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John. In lieu of flowers donations in Horst’s name can be made to the Extra Mural Program-Saint John Unit.
