Gladys Dougay

With heavy hearts, the family of Gladys Dougay announces her passing, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 31st, 2019. Gladys was born in Charlottetown on January 8, 1933; a daughter of the late Fred and Lucretia (Mulligan) Murray, and the loving wife of the late Joseph ‘Amiel’ Dougay. Gladys was a strong and supportive wife to Amiel, a wonderful mother to seven children, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother; a fierce protector and advocate for all of her offspring. She was always fully engaged in life and new things, though she honored the past and traditions.  Gladys had a very diverse career; she was a Teacher in both PEI, and Saint John, and later worked for Zellers, Calp’s, and Towers. She was also a strong supporter of both the Provincial and Federal Liberal parties.

She is survived by her children Nancy Buchan-Terrell (Grant) of Oakville, ON, Diane Driscoll (Pat) of Baxter’s Corner, Karen Dort (Harold Jr.) of Saint John, Paul of Alberta, Alan (Angie) of Baxter’s Corner, Peter (Roxanne) of Saint John, and Heather Fox (Dan) of Baxter’s Corner, brother Charlie Murray (Audrey) of Toronto, sister Bernadette Farrell of Miscouche, PEI, 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Along with her husband and parents, Gladys was pre-deceased by brothers Eugene, Louis, Robert, and Greg, sister Mabel Warren, and granddaughter Jenna Elizabeth Driscoll.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joseph’s Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Saint John SPCA-Animal Rescue, or the HOPE Centre would be appreciated by the family.
