Gerard "Gerry" Laming Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Gerard George Laming on July 30, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  Born in St. Stephen, NB on May 9, 1947, he was the son of the late Thomas and Georgette (Boudain) Laming and loving husband to Philomena (Gillis) Laming.

Gerry was, quite simply, remarkable.  He was the kindest, most giving man that anyone could ever have hoped to meet.  Gerry welcomed everyone into his home, from his children's friends to perfect strangers who quickly became his friends, and made sure to feed them all.  He was genuine in his like for everyone, never forced. Whether he was tired or not, did not matter to him; if someone needed help, he was going to help them.  He started working as an installer and repairman for NBTel and worked there for 31 years before retiring. 10 years ago he joined Air Canada as a Ramp Attendant, and was genuinely liked and respected as a coworker.  He was a hard worker and loved his places of employment. Gerry was the go-to guy for everyone. His willingness to give of himself and help others knew no bounds. He was selfless. Gerry was a quiet man but his wit and sarcasm were very loud.  He was fun loving and had a very dry sense of humor – one that sometimes got him into trouble. He liked movies and loved woodworking, he loved attending anything to do with his children and wife, he had a natural talent for mathematics, was a phenomenal cook and he loved all animals.  Gerry loved his kids and grandchildren more than he loved himself and would do anything for them. He leaves a giant hole behind that can't be filled and all who had the privilege to meet him will miss him so deeply. He was one of a kind.

In addition to his wife, Philomena, he is survived by children, Jamie (Jeremy), Renée (Adam) and Jared; grandchildren, Casey, Emma, Paisley and baby Joseph who is on the way, several nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.  He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved dog Carley.

Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  In keeping with Gerry's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. For those who wish, memorial donations in his memory made to the Joshua Group or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by his family.
