Welcome to the memorial page for

Florence McCafferty

July 4, 2017

With gratitude for a long life, well lived, but heavy hearts for their loss, the family of Evelyn Florence (Wanamaker) McCafferty announce her passing at home at the age of 101 years old.  She was born in Saint John, NB on November 19, 1915 to the late James and Viola Wanamaker.

Evelyn spent her working career within varying positions in hospitals over the years.  She was called a Ward Girl during her time, but now she would probably be called a Personal Support Worker or something akin to that.  She worked in hospitals well into her 60’s before retiring.  Even after retirement she just loved people and interaction so she acted as a crossing guard.  Evelyn was an avid bingo player.  She loved to sing and dance, and lived very independently up until the day she passed.  “as a very funny woman who loved to joke and make people laugh.  She loved to laugh and was a very happy woman.  She will be fondly remembered as a “Go’er and Do’er” who was passionately devoted to her children and grandchildren.  She deeply missed her daughter who had gone before her, and spoke of her often.  101 years on this earth , providing fierce loyalty to those she loved.  She will be deeply missed.  Sometimes a long life well lived just somehow doesn’t feel long enough.

She is survived by her daughters; Barbara Robertson (Rick Grubbe) of ON, and Geraldine (Bill) Mitchell of Saint John, son Bernard McCafferty of  ON,  eleven grandchildren; Kevin, Tommy, Carter, and Barbara, Tara, Elisa,  Kelly, Chris, Geri, William, Cara and , 14 great grandchildren ; Nicole, Matthew, Amber, Patrick, Kendra, Kian, Brian, Shaylee, and Jaclyn

Arial,Sheneila, Vichelle, Brianne and Layla, and two great great granddaughers; Yasmine and Ellie along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Evelyn was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Arrangements are under the professional care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (646-2424).  Evelyn’s family invite those who would like to attend to an interment at Fernhill Cemetery on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10:30am .   For those who wish, memorial donations made in Eveyln’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.  To sign the guestbook, place a condolence or light a virtual candle, please visit www.fundyfuneralhome.com
