Welcome to the memorial page for

Emma Rose (Goulding) Misner

August 22, 1958 ~ May 30, 2017 (age 58) 58 Years Old

MISNER, ROSE

Emma Rose (Goulding) Misner, loving wife of Clayton Misner, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born in St. John’s Newfoundland in 1958, Emma Rose was the only child of Samuel and Mildred Goulding. She was named after her Maternal and Paternal Grandmothers. Rose was predeceased by her Dad in 1979 and her Mom in 2006. She had the joy of knowing both her parents were safe in the arms of Jesus.

Due to her visual impairment, like her Father before her, they both attended the Halifax School for the Blind. Rose’s musical abilities were evident early in life as she self taught on a button accordion and her neighbour’s pump organ. She could sing since she was old enough to talk. Her first public performance was at the age of four, where at the Salvation Army Citadel, they put her on a chair which was placed on a table. From there, she played and her Dad sang and played Silent Night at a Christmas concert.

When she was eight, she began ten years of piano lessons, achieving Toronto Conservatory of Music, grade 9 piano and Maritime Conservatory of Music, grade 2 theory. As a teenager, she also self taught on guitar. Rose took recorder lessons and a year of flute, but by no means was her singing anything to be ignored. The only vocal training Rose received was pointers she got in school choirs. Obviously, her vocal ability surpassed that. We have all been blessed time and time again by her beautiful gift of music.

After graduating and attending Dartmouth Regional Vocational School for a year and giving her life to the Lord in 1977, she returned home to Newfoundland but wasn’t destined to remain there. In the Fall of 1978, she got her first job as church secretary, back in Halifax NS. So the next ten years were filled with working and attending church. Rose wrote Christian songs, played organ and piano and eventually became a worship leader.

Rose was the worship musician and a youth leader for St. Mary St. Bartholomew’s Church. She was a member of St. Mary’s Band, an active member of Foursquare Church of Canada, her passion was facilitating worship and she was a lifelong client of CNIB.

In addition to her loving and devoted husband of 28 years, Clayton she is survived by their children Michael Andrew Misner (Cheryl Rock), Stephen Daniel Misner (Amber) and Matthew Thornton Misner (Jessica); grandchildren Ava, Siena, Elliott, Zoe, Hazel, Zachary and Killian; step grandchild Maelin Morrison; sister-in-law Doris Granter; niece Debbie Baker; and many friends.

She was predeceased by her half-brother David Granter.

The family invites you to a visitation at St. Mary St. Bartholomew’s Church, 646 Westmorland Road, Saint John on Friday, June 2 from 4pm to 8pm.
