With appreciation for a life well-lived, the family of Elizabeth “Bertie” Alberta (Melvin) Craig, loving wife of the late Chester Craig, announces her peaceful passing, which occurred in her 102nd year, on Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Turnbull Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, NB on April 4, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Alberta (Beckingham) Melvin.
Bertie will be remembered as a loving lady, who was truly devoted to her family and friends. She shared a love for reading, enjoyed movies and was very talented in the kitchen. Her family will miss her famous whoopie pies and homemade bread.
Bertie is survived by her 3 sons; Ralph (Carol), David “Corky” (Carol) and Grant (Esther), 3 daughters; Eleanor Willis, Beverly (Joseph) Martin and Susan Hector. She is also survived by her brother Ronald Melvin and 2 sisters; Vivian MacDonald and Audrey Taylor. Bertie will be forever missed by her 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Bertie is predeceased by her brother Donald, sisters Dorothy Forret, Connie Hopey, June Martin and sons in-law Lawrence Hector and Cal Willis.
We would like to offer a sincere thank you to the staff of Turnbull Nursing Home for their care, compassion and love shown to our Mom throughout her stay.
A graveside service will be held at Ocean View Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 2:30 PM. If desired, memorial donations in memory of Bertie could be placed towards Bobby's Hospice or the Children's Wish Foundation.
