It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Donald Ersel Hersey which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, November 11th, 2016. Born in 1933, in Fredericton, N.B., he was the son of the late Ersel M. Hersey and Frances C (Robichaud) Hersey. In his earlier years, Don worked as a Civil Engineer for Kimberley Clark, Terrace Bay Pulp and Paper, Georgia Pacific Woodland Maine, Mead Escanaba Michigan, retiring from Irving Pulp and Paper in Saint John. He was a Baptist Minister in Gaspereau Valley and the South Shore of Nova Scotia. He was also a fine cabinet maker. Don loved playing and watching sports. He was an avid Patriots football fan and a Montreal hockey fan. He enjoyed helping people build things, working with his hands.
Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife Sandra (Shillington) of nine years; daughter Jennifer Covington (Les Foldi) of Saint John, Beth Tirrell (Randy) of Denver, Colorado; sisters Helen Douthwright of Saint John, Sue Mesheau (George) of Quispamsis; grandchildren Brandon, Natassia, Graeme, Sheena, and Spencer; 3 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews, and friends. Besides his parents' Don was predeceased by his sister Joyce Wade, and first wife Shirley (Waugh) Hersey, mother of his two children.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held from the Lighthouse of Faith Church (1163 Rothesay Rd.) on Tuesday, Nov, 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Don may be made to the Lighthouse of Faith Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
