Daniel Edward "Danny" Vincent Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Daniel “Danny” Edward Vincent announce his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  After a brave 14 month journey, Danny left us on Wednesday June 13, 2018 at the age of 49. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late John and Sandra (Richardson) Vincent.

Danny is survived by the love of his life, Lisa (Power) Vincent of Saint John and his son and best buddy Colby (12) at home; several aunts and uncles including his special aunt Dodie and uncle Richard, both of Minto, uncle Albert of Saint John and aunt Rona of PEI; several cousins and many, many, friends.

Although Danny’s “related” family was somewhat small, his “chosen” family was extensive. If you were befriended by Danny Vincent, you were family for life. Although the list would be too numerous to name, Danny thought of several of his closest friends as the brothers and sisters he was never given. Patti and Marc, you stood right beside him and were an unbelievable support system through this journey. Also, to Margaret, who cared for Colby as he was growing up.  You were like a mother to Dan and there was a special place in his heart for you.

Danny began working for the Liquor Commission 17 years ago starting out as casual in the Lansdowne Ave. store for quite a number of years.  He briefly worked his way through Hampton and Parkway before securing a full-time position and membership in the ANBL Local 963 at the former Prince Edward Square location know now as Wellington.  Dan enjoyed his job and his work family and the interaction with the people he served.  It gave him that venue to see people from his past and to expand on his wealth of relationships.

Dan graduated from SJHS in 1987 and was a key member of some incredible adventures and some equally enticing shenanigans.  Whether it was on the football field or hangin’ in the “Breezeway” with the boys, a class ski trip or on one of many excursions in the “Trottmobile” with Patti and the fellas, Danny’s personality and his sense of humour were definite highlights in it all.  He and Marc ran the roads together and both decided that a four year plan in high school gave them that extra year to play football and another whole year to sign autographs!! In hindsight it also gave Dan extra time to grow those high school football alliances that to this day remain strong and connected.  He and Marc were literally, prom dates, which probably ties into the fact that they also ended up as one another’s’ "matchmaker".  They finally got it right, scoring with Lisa and Shari and securing their dates for 30 years later at their reunion.  How fitting!!......Not only with Marc, but other lifelong friendships started well before high school. For example, those formative years when Danny became the self-appointed President of the Milford rock throwing club with his VP and partner in crime, Norm. Oh, the stories that could be told.  Childhood nonsense became the building blocks for bonds that lasted through the years and couldn’t be tarnished or broken by time or marriages, careers and grown up life.  When Lisa came into Danny’s life, in his true style, Danny befriended her friends. Excellent times were had at concerts with Sawyer and Hachey and Bunker and he would often tease Lisa with the idea that “her Scott” was actually his friend. So much fun was had blending their personal circles of friends into one.

Danny could cook like nobody’s business and he had a favorite pan for many years that he cooked everything in that was affectionately referred to as “Danny’s Deep Dish”.  Lisa and Danny’s home was often the hub for one of his famous barbeques or his latest concoction in the smoker and they traditionally hosted a get together every New Year’s Day complete with his amazing ribs. Dan truly was a friend to all whom had the honour of knowing him.  He treated all people who crossed his path with kindness, respect and when the situation called for it, a bit of humour.

According to Dan, his greatest blessing was finding Lisa and bringing Colby into this world. Becoming a father was his ultimate joy and he was full of pride and love for his son.  Danny’s love of football transferred into his new role as a sports dad and he was completely engaged in coaching Colby’s football team last season.

Danny…… you were one of a kind.  You will never be forgotten.  As you said to so many over the years……., “Peace Brother”.

Rest well brother Dan.  Until we meet again.

Along with his parents, Danny was predeceased by his sweet Aunt Mary and his uncle Elmer.
