Charles Long Obituary

Charles V. Long “Chuck”

With sadness but in appreciation for a life well lived, Chuck went to be with our Lord on Sunday July 15, 2018. He was born in Saint John on February 14, 1930 to the late Fred and Lulu Long. He was the loving husband of Grace (Hughes) Long.

He is survived by his wife Grace of 65 years; daughters Debra and Beth (Doug); daughter-in-law Judy; six grandchildren Carrie, Amanda (Chris), Hannah (Josh), Kristen, Trevor (Tricia) and Sean (Sam); nine great grandchildren Gavin, Chloe, Hayden, Hudson, Autumn, Leah, Jackson, Danny and Masen. He adored all his children. He is also survived by his siblings Murray, Bobby, Vera, Mary and Pauline. He was predeceased by his parents, two sons Billy and Bruce; four sisters Edith, Margie, Lois and Eleanor; two brothers Lee and Jack.

Chuck was a mason by trade, then was hired on with CP Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1990 as a conductor.

He loved his church family. He served as Envelope Secretary, Property Committee and was on vestry a few years back.

He loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing with his son Bruce and with his dear friends, going to Jim Shaw’s camp for many years.

He was a member of the River Valley Sporting Association and taught hunters safety in Grand Bay. He enjoyed bowling, golfing with Mel and Rick and nephews, skating and playing cards.

He especially enjoyed having family get togethers on special occasions.

Grace is very thankful for the staff at Carleton Kirk for their care and compassion during her husband’s stay.

Following cremation, visitations will be held from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Thursday, July 19 from 3 to 7 pm.
