Arneita Meahan Obituary

With sadness but a sense of peace, for a long life well lived, we announce the passing of  Arneita Maywood (Newell) Meahan at Loch Lomond Village on September 17, 2018 at the age of 101.  She was surrounded by her loving family when she passed.  Arneita was born on February 18, 1917 in Newellton, NS to the late Allison and Hazel (Swaine) Newell and was the loving wife for over 75 years to her husband Frank Meahan.

Arneita worked for Pascal Emerson’s Department Store as a cashier for over 30 years in Uptown Saint John.  She was an avid bowler who received many trophies and she enjoyed knitting, camping, cooking, quilting, and traveling home to Nova Scotia for family visits. She was a quick witted woman who enjoyed life.  She lived her life to the fullest, and was still dancing to her favorite songs at the age of 90, putting those younger than her to shame.  She was a hard worker, who was always there to help and invariably was the first person you turned to if you needed a shoulder, helping hand, or just some strength and guidance.  Arneita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, as well as a loving sister, aunt and friend.  She loved her family, and although she was able to be around to see her 10 great grandchildren be born and one reach the age of 25, she will still be deeply missed by her adoring family.  She went deeply loved.

Arneita is survived by the love of her life, husband Frank, as well as daughters; Cheryl Riley of Saint John and Donna (Jim) Neale of Ottawa, sister Gladys Swim of Clarks Harbour, five precious grandchildren; Sherril, Kim, Jennifer, Patrick and John, 10 cherished great-grandchildren,  nieces, nephews and special niece Lorraine (Barry) Bower for their love and support. Along with her parents, Arneita was predeceased by brothers Denton, Bernard, Milton and Clyde and sisters Annie, Ruby and Myrtle.

Her family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Loch Lomond Village, particularly Willow House, for the kindness, compassion and caring attitude that was shown every day to not only our mother, but our father and the rest of our family for the past three years.  A special thank you to Frank and Bernice Goguen for always making it easy for our father to see his beloved wife daily, and for your love and support.  You are all so appreciated and we are forever grateful to you.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 1pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens . Donations in Arneita’s memory can be made to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation, the Alzheimer Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
