Alveata Irene (Smith) Nairn

With heavy hearts but appreciation for a long life, well lived, the family of Alveata Irene (Smith) Nairn announce her passing on February 6, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, at the age of 89.  She was born in Moncton, NB on January 18, 1929 to the late Lloyd and Irene (Day) Smith and was the loving wife to the late Ralph Nairn who passed in 2005.

Alveata was a very social person and loved nothing more than being surrounded by friends and family.  She was a wonderful hostess, both at the restaurants that she worked at and the house parties she loved to throw.  She loved to cook and entertain, and when she and her beloved husband Ralph were younger, they loved nothing more than dancing the night away at the Legion.  Alveata was a deeply devoted mother; her boys were her pride and joy and they were so adored.  She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. 

She is survived by her two sons; Ralph Nairn Jr. (Lucy LeBlanc), John (Susan), daughter Dian (Herve) Chartier of Cochrane, AB, 3 grandchildren; Courtney Nairn, Jacqueline (Evan) Barrett and Emily Davies, 3 great-grandchildren; Jase and Elijah Barrett and Helena Doiron, sister Mildred McCavour, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.  Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister Shirley Pringle and her brother-in-law Robin Pringle.

Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  In keeping with Alveata’s wishes, there will be no visitation held. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
