Ida Mary Mersereau

With heavy hearts, the family of Ida Mersereau announces her passing, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on June 27th, 2022. Born in Saint John on March 13, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Sylvain and Delina (Martin) Mersereau. During her working years, she was a bank teller with CIBC. Ida is survived by her brother Raymond Mersereau (Lois), sisters Theresa Black and Mary Whipple, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews whom she greatly loved; special great nephew Patrick Bardsley who was like her grandson and special friend Colleen Boucher.  Along with her parents, Ida was predeceased by her brother Abram, as well as sisters Rita McCarthy, Orise Arseneault, and infant sister Doreen Mersereau.

Foremost in Ida’s life was her family.  She cherished each and every one throughout generations.  Her kindness and love of children impacted our family in such a meaningful and devoted way.  She was the centerpiece of our family knowing details of each of our lives.  Without children of her own, she was a mother to many of us.  Gestures of kindness and gifts for every occasion were received from Ida with caring and love. 

Ida was very devoted to the church serving 35 years with the Catholic Women's League.  She loved music, dancing, was very active and a very stylish, beautiful lady.  The void in our lives left by Ida will forever be felt.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street on Tuesday, July 5th at 12:10 p.m. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
