Peter FreelonWright

On Sunday, April 14, 2013, Peter Freelon Wright, loving husband of Kathy (Mersereau) Wright, passed away peacefully, in the presence of the Lord and surrounded by his family. Born in Saint John, NB, he is the son of Regina (Robichaud) Wright and the late Freelon Wright.  Peter worked as a Senior Terminal Operator for 30 years at Imperial Oil.  A second generation “oil man”, he followed in his father’s footsteps (previous owner of Wright Fuel).  Peter’s need to “keep busy” after his retirement led him to a position with RST Industries as a driver for a number of years.  He was a kind and generous man, well respected within his church and community.  He was also loyal and encouraging with a forgiving heart.  Peter was a wonderful example of a godly man and a true mentor to all; his love for Family and God were immeasurable.  He thoroughly enjoyed vacationing in Florida with family and friends. In addition to his loving wife Kathy, Peter is survived by his sons Shawn (Amy), Todd, and Cory (Tammy), all of Saint John; daughter Maryse (Chris), Dieppe; brothers Jamie (Linda), Saint John; Philip (Lisa) Woodstock, ON., Tony (Carolyn), Saint John; and Shawn, Toronto, ON., sisters Donna (Hal) Buffett, New Maryland and Paula (Glen) Theall, Public Landing; grandchildren Danik, Chanelle, Chloe, Shayla, Mya and Gavin, his former wife Gloria Wright, Saint John, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road. (646-2424). The family will receive visitors at Mission Point First United Pentecostal Church, 130 Mark Drive, Saint John, Tuesday from 6-8 pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.   The Funeral will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013 from Mission Point First United Pentecostal Church, 130 Mark Drive at 2 pm. The committal will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, followed by a reception at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory made to the Mission Point – Missions Department would be appreciated by the family. Wright Family,
I am tremendously sorry for you loss. Peter was one of a kind, and brilliantly joyful. His heart was loving and he was able to encourage both personally as well as through example like I have never seen before. What an amazing man to have had the opportunity to meet and talk with (and laugh with). Praying for you all at this time!

Peter was a huge encouragement to me at the most difficult time of my life. In 1998-1999 I lost my health, my home, my marriage, my father died, and I had to declare bankruptcy. I was reduced to living in a basement apartment with weekend visitation with my 2 year old son, broke and not knowing if I'd ever be able to work at my trade again. Something led me into that church where I met Peter. We both worked in the fuel business so we had something in common. Except I was lost and he knew God in a big way. His prayers and encouragement made all the difference in the world to me and for that I will be eternally grateful. I have since gone on to a successful career in the industry and also have a ministry in the church to this day. God bless you my friend!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kathy and the rest of the family for their great loss. We have some wonderful memories of Peter. Had alot of nice visits from him back in the mid 80's when we pastored in Geary and he would be passing by and stop in and visit with us and sometimes have dinner with us. He was such an outgoing friendly man of God, a wonderful Christian example. Praying for God's strength for you all at this time. Wish we could be there with you but our prayers will be there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you the Wright family during this time of personal loss. Peter was always such a joy to chat with even if it was just a short hello or a wave as he would enter the gym or on his way out... (this is where i normally ran into him.) He had a winning smile, a caring heart and a love for God and the things of God. He was a man of faith and endurance and I am sure he is now enjoying the presence of the Jesus in a new and greater dimension than ever before. "Absent from the body, present with the Lord"

Please accept our sincere condolences at this time of your loss and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Peter has been a true friend and tremendous example of a Christian. Many times over the years Peter would stop in for a visit while driving by and he always had a word of encouragement to pass along. The Psalmist said "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" and while we have lost a friend, heaven has gained a saint.

Dear Kathy, my sincere heartfelt condolences to you and the family. Dear Peter was my friend who never wavered in knowing what true friendship meant, He did not judge you he loved you and for certain brought you before the throne of grace. Peter was a true and faithful Christian man he sought after God's own heart. His presence will be missed in all of the many lives he touched. I have been richly blessed to have known him in my life time. He is now in the presence of our God he loved and worshipped with his whole heart. Peter and I became what I recall, "very good friends" in the early 70's. We worked together at Imperial Oil in Saint John. We had some fantastic "laughs together", for sure ! I really don't know, which one of us, had a "louder or tear shedding" laugh, but it really doesn't matter. Peter was "truly" an inspiration! Peter............. the pain and suffering, have finally passed. May God Bless you !

To Kathy and all the Wright Family I am sending my most heartfelt condolences in the loss of a very special friend. I have know Peter and his family since childhood as we lived two doors down from his and the fun times we all had growing up,are way too many to mention! As Peter's brother Philip is married to my sister Lisa, their family is even extra, extra special. Your suffering has finally come to an end my friend, so until we meet again, may you rest in peace! Shawn, Todd, Cory, Maryse, Kathy and Gloria, so sorry and sad to hear the news. He was a great guy. Loved riding in the truck with him up to Fredericton when I was little. I still feel bad that I made him go so fast once that he got a speeding ticket. He was only mad at me for a couple minutes so it was okay.

My family sends our deepest condolences to all of yours.

Kathy and family, please receive my heartfelt condolances and prayers at this time. I just know that Peter has got to be on the welcoming committee for all that make heaven their home. His broad smile and GREAT hugs will be sorely missed on this side of heaven. One more reason to make heaven my home, just to be greeted by this great man of God. Peter will never be forgotten in the Prayer Room of Mission Point. May his legacy live on through all of us. With all my love and prayers. Lynne

He Is Not Dead

I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead. He is just away.
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand,
He has wandered into an unknown land
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since he lingers there.
And you—oh you, who the wildest yearn
For an old-time step, and the glad return,
Think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of There as the love of Here.
Think of him still as the same. I say,
He is not dead—he is just away.

Kathy, Howard and I are so sorry for you at this time. Peter was a wonderful man, truly a spiritual giant. I remember meeting him at Brenans one time when he was visiting with Pastor Kennedy. I had been suffering for month wit such severe pain in my hip. Peter got on one side of me and the Pastor on the other. they prayed for me right there in the funeral home and that night I slept, pain free. He was always so gracious and friendly, he dealt with people on their own level. Peter never made me feel inferior. As a couple you had a great ministry, and Kathy whenever you came to pray with me I have felt the anointing Power of the Holy Ghost from my head right to my toes God bless and comfort you Dear Kathy, ai pray that he will wrap those everlasting arms around and keep you safe.

Kathy,

So sorry for your loss but also rejoicing at heaven's gain. We count ourselves very fortunate to have been acquainted with Peter. He was such an exhuberant Christian and his worship was contagious. We have great memories of the times our paths crossed. One vivid memory was when he portrayed "Jesus" in the mini-drama "There's A Promise Coming Down Your Dusty Road". Please know that we are thinking of all of you and holding you up in prayer. Deut. 33:27
