Welcome to the memorial page for

William Herbert Jackson

December 3, 1933 ~ March 23, 2015 (age 81) 81 Years Old

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the death of William Herbert “Bill” Jackson, on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital due to a heart attack.  He was from St. Martins, N.B. and is the son of the late Eldon and Jean Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Norma Henry.

Bill was passionate about his family and his work.  A carpenter by trade, Bill worked in the Saint John area and in New York.  After serving as a Ranger in the U.S. Army’s famed 101st Airborne Division, Bill returned to Saint John and taught woodworking for over forty years at the Saint John Vocational School, where he instructed many of southern New Brunswick’s finest carpenters.  “Voc” was a very important part of Bill’s life.  After commencing his teaching career, he obtained a Masters degree in education and served as the school’s Vice-Principal.  He also coached a number of the Voc sports teams.

Bill was also an ardent athlete.  He played baseball and hockey for his hometown teams in St. Martins and football for both the Saint John Wanderers and for the U.S. Army.  Bill was a great fan of his four grandsons and rarely missed their hockey, football, rowing and soccer competitions.

Throughout his life, Bill maintained his strong ties with his many friends and relatives in St. Martins.  He was a devoted member of the St. Martins United Church and took an active interest in community events in the Village. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge St. Martins # 30.

Bill is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Barbara (nee Langille),  his children Cynthia VanBuskirk (Kelly) and Michael (Carolyn), his beloved grandsons Cecil VanBuskirk, Oliver VanBuskirk, Charlie Jackson and Will Jackson, and several nieces and nephews.
