It is with profound sadness the family of Steven Leonard Thompson of Chance Harbour announces his passing which occurred on Monday October 24, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Steven was born in Saint John on November 14, 1954 to the late Hazen and Muriel (Buckle) Thompson and was the devoted husband to Sharon Allen.

Steven was born and raised as a fisherman.  His father was a lobster fisherman and after taking his first steps on a lobster fishing boat, Steven was destined to follow in his father’s footsteps. He spent all of his life on the water.  Growing up in Chance Harbour allowed him the opportunity to follow his heart and he volunteered for the Musquash Fire Department, and spent free time skiing and skating and playing ball. Steven was the coordinator for Fundy Fisherman’s Day for many years.  He volunteered for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as the Harbour Authority of Chance Harbour and Dipper Harbour.  When he wasn’t fishing or on the water in some capacity, Steven spent all of his time with his family. Both of Steven’s boats were named after his precious daughters. One of his daughters moved to England and there was not a year that passed, when he was able, that he didn’t travel there to see her and the sights.

When Steven went to be with his Lord and Savior, he left behind to mourn his loving wife Sharon, his devoted daughters; Amy (Mark) Nolan of Rugeley, England and Catherine (Steve) Thompson of Quispamsis, step son Glen Banfield of Saint John, precious grandchildren; Hope, Josiah, Tobias, Jared, Mackenzie and Colby, step-grandson Nathan; brother David (Mary Milander) of Saint John; mother of his children Cindy and her boys Isaiah, Jeremiah and Elijah all of PEI; nieces, nephews, friends and his favorite feline friend Bandit.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.  A memorial service to celebrate Steven’s life will be held from the Chance Harbour Baptist Church, Chance Harbour Road , Chance Harbour, on Sunday, October 30th at 2:30 p.m., followed by a reception.  In lieu of flowers donations in Steven’s memory may be made to IWK, the Kidney Foundation, and the Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  To sign the guestbook, place an online condolence or light a candle in Steven’s memory, please visit www.fundyfuneralhome.com
