It is with great sadness the family of Reginald “Reggie “James Hughes announce his passing which occurred at the St. Joseph’s Hospital on March 31, 2018. Born on the St. Mary’s Road, PEI on April 8th, 1928. He was the son of the late Thomas and Bertha (Mahar) Hughes.
Reggie grew up on the family farmstead and worked on the farm until moving across New Brunswick into Ontario and then back to Saint John. He was a talented mechanic and worked for SMT for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. He loved to work on cars and was always busy tinkering. He built houses with his brothers and enjoyed country and western music, dancing and cold beer.
Reggie is survived by his daughter Pam Hughes and sons Stephen Hughes (Lynda) and Leonard Hughes all of Saint John; grandchildren Cliff, Kim, Jonathan, Mark, Carrie and Josh; two great-grandchildren; brother Cecil Hughes (Eunice) and sister Margaret Hughes (Louis) both of PEI; several nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, Reggie was predeceased by his wife Carol Hughes and daughter Karen Hughes; 2 sons in infancy; grandson Richard Hughes; brothers Thomas, Herman and Leonard and sisters Bridget, Mary and Sydella.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Tuesday April 3rd from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday April 4th at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
