Patricia Aiton Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Patricia (Pat/Patsy) Irene (Meikle) Aiton announces her passing, with her family by her side, at Bobby’s Hospice on March 14, 2018 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.  Pat was 66 years old.

Born in Saint John on November 5, 1951, Pat was the daughter of the late Isabelle Bessie Irene Meikle and Thompson Durning.  She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gary of Saint John, NB, her daughter Lorena Belliveau (Kevin) of Waasis, NB, her brother Raymond Meikle of Halifax, NS, step sister Nina Durning of Saint John, NB, sisters-in-law Sharon Linden (Earl), Kim McLong (George), both of Southfield, NB, and Lynn Aiton of Picadilly, NB, brothers-in-law Arnold Aiton of Rothesay, NB and Ronald Aiton (Sandra) of Southfield, NB, several cousins, nieces, nephews, special friends Helen Davidson, Margaret Grant, Heather Loughery Boel, Anne Northrup, long time family friends/neighbours the Spences, and granddog Amigo.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Sharon Collicott, an infant twin sister Roberta Irene, and several step siblings.

After graduation from Saint John Vocational School in 1969, Pat worked at the Saint John Public Library until devoting her to time to being a full-time homemaker.

Pat appreciated the simple things in life, such as a good book, a cup of tea, creatures of all kinds, the sound of waves crashing on the beach, cuddling with her granddog, cruising around in her Ford Escape named Sunny, day trips to Casino New Brunswick in Moncton or to Calais, Maine, and especially swimming with her pals at the former Keddy’s Hotel pool.  Pat had many wonderful people come into her life over the years and felt that everyone meets for a reason.  She was especially fond of a Chinese proverb that reads: “An invisible thread connects those destined to meet, despite the time, the place, and despite the circumstances.  The thread can be tightened or tangle, but will never be broken”.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, with visitation taking place on Sunday, March 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  A funeral service and reception will be held at Fundy Funeral Home on Monday, March 19th at 2:00 PM.  Interment at Titus Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date.

As per Pat’s wishes, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, The Joshua Group, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Pat’s family would like to thank Dr. Kolyvas, Dr. Naz, Dr. Reiman, and the entire staff of the Oncology Department at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the professional, prompt and personalized care she received during her surgery and treatments.  The excellent care Pat received from Extra-Mural and Riley’s Home Care staff enabled Pat to stay in her home as long as possible, which meant a great deal to her.  Thanks is also due to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice, who provided comfort and compassion to Pat and her family during the final stages of her illness.  The fact that such a facility exists is a blessing to the people of Saint John and surrounding areas.  Many thanks as well to Reverend David Barrett and to all of Pat’s family, friends and neighbours for the visits, gifts, phone calls, and other acts of kindness during her illness.  Your support was appreciated more than words can ever express.
