oh my goodness what a loss. I haven't seen Kathy for many years but I've been following her on Facebook with pictures of her travels, her kids, and her grandkids. It was lovely reading about and seeing pictures of her life. She did not let any of her loyal readers know that she was so ill but if she had, she would have been inundated with words of love and appreciation from friends past and present.

Kathy and I went to St. Vincent's High School together and were steadfast friends. She was pretty "chill" about her academic achievements yet always walked away with great marks. Hers was the shoulder I looked over to find the answers to some of those pesky math quizzes. Not only smart - Kathy was liked by every girl in school, and while I was your classic wallflower, Kathy caught the eye of every awkward young male high schoolers.

We didn't see much of each other after high school for a couple of years...until I fell in love with her brother! So happily I was back in her life again. I always loved hanging around the O'Brien household with all the love and laughs from everyone and especially from Kathy. It was no surprise to me that Kathy was the first of my friends to get married and to have children because she was one of those women, even as a very young woman, who loved people and showered those around her with care and attention and concern. My love to Steve, Susan, Chris, Shane and Brendan and to Kathy's children...your Mom was special at 17 and continued to be so her whole life.
