Welcome to the memorial page for

Joseph Charles Verner

March 13, 1930 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Charles Verner on November 7, 2017 with his loving family by his side at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  He was born in Saint John on March 13, 1930 to the late Ernest and Mertice (Higgins) Verner.

Joseph was not a quiet man.  He was witty and funny, and loved to joke and tease.  He was a very devoted family man, ensuring not only did he raise a lot of children and have them all come to gatherings, but that he saw his parents daily even when he had a family of his own.  He was even foreman to his children at the fertilizer plant at one point in time.  He loved to bowl and play cards, and loved to watch The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune…sometimes twice to fool everyone with his uncanny ability to guess the right answers.  He was an animal lover, and always had dogs and cats around.  He would do anything for his family and greatly enjoyed spoiling his adored grandchildren.  His family will greatly miss this wonderful man, who was taken from them much too soon.

Joe is survived by his 6 sons; Clarence, Brian (Donna), Robert (Victoria), Richard, Joseph and Keith (Martha), 3 daughters; Sandra Bennett, Mary Verner and Tina (John Junta) Verner, 19 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and one great great grandson.  As well, his brother David and his sisters Mertiece Daly,  Regina Porter and Edna Sharkey, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife Mary, he was predeceased by his son Bruce and several brothers and sisters.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 2pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Memorial donations in Joe’s memory made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
