It is with great sadness the family of John James Harold McGilvery announce his passing on September 6th, 2017 at Willow House in Loch Lomond Village. He was born in Owen Sound, ON, on November 9th, 1929, to the late John and Mary McGilvery.
John began his career in the military serving as a second cook and then an assistant cook in the Navy from 1949-1953. John was a jack of all trades kind of guy. He was a quiet man but was always happy. He liked the simple things in life like filling in crossword puzzles, reading and going to pubs.
John is the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been predeceased by his parents, his son John, his daughter Elizabeth, his grandson John, his sisters Jean, Madeline and Dorothy, as well as his brother-in-law Jack. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and caregiver and friend Bonni Whynot (Tim).
His family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Manor St. Jude, Alfreda Avila and Dan Alderman of Bayshore Home Health and the staff of Willow House at Loch Lomond Village for the kindness and compassion they showed to John during his time there.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Sunday, September 10th from 3 to 6 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, September 11th at 10 a.m. beginning with a Tribute to a Veteran Service. Interment to follow at Fernhill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in John’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
