James "Jim" Gerard McGovern

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Gerard McGovern, husband of the late Edna Mary (Butler), on July 18, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Jim was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on January 17, 1929; a son of the late Bernard and Florence McGovern (McCarthy).

Jim retired from NBTel in 1990 with 33 years of service as an Engineering Technologist and was a proud member of the NB Tel Pioneers.

Jim is survived by his two children; Michael (Alice “Sutton”) and Anne Marie (David) Burpee both of Saint John. He will also be remembered by his three grandchildren, Christopher Burpee (Kate Steeves), Sarah Burpee and Ryan Vautour; sisters in-law; Shirley McGovern, Val McGovern, Eileen Miles and Mary Sullivan.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to Edna and his parents, Jim is predeceased by his brothers; Bernard, Joseph and Thomas, sisters; Constance McGrath and Mary Finnigan.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 3-8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m from St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
 

If desired, memorial donations can be placed towards the Cathedral Restoration Project, Bobby’s Hospice or the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
