Welcome to the memorial page for

J. Gerald "Jerry" Ryan

November 20, 2015

With heavy hearts, the family of Joseph Gerald “Jerry” Ryan announce his peaceful passing at the age of 75, on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Bobby’s Hospice.  Born in Saint John, NB, in 1940, he was the son of the late David and Eleanor (Walsh) Ryan and loving husband to Helen (Mason) Ryan.

Jerry was a very kind and caring man, devoted to helping others throughout his life.  He valued teamwork and his time with family and friends.  Jerry will forever be remembered for his sense of humor and charm, and his “Ryan Wit”.  Some of the happiest times of Helen and Jerry’s life were spent at the cottage at Henry Lake, where he and The Boys spent countless hours “building and playing.”

Jerry began his career in credit management with Irving Oil and Scotiabank, before he started working as a counsellor with Ridgewood and as a counsellor with the John Howard Society of Saint John.  Jerry just loved to help.  Taken much too soon, he will be forever missed.

In addition to his wife Helen, Jerry is survived by his sons; Michael (Jennifer) and Mark, brother; Paul (Leona), sisters; Patricia (Edward), Anne (Frank), Evelyn (Frederick) and Mary, and his precious grand-children Steven, Maxwell and Wayne, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jerry was pre-deceased by his parents, as well as best friends Adrian Lafrancois and Joe Golding.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  Following cremation, a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church in St. Martins on Tuesday, November 24 at 1pm with interment to follow in St. Williams Mission Cemetery immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Bobby’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  The Ryan family would like to sincerely thank those who helped to assist Jerry on his journey, especially Dr. Jane Ashfield, the Extra Mural and Palliative Care nurses and the staff of Bobby’s Hospice for ensuring Jerry was comfortable and happy, still witty and dry, right to the end.
