Gladys D. Howard

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Gladys Doreen (Sherwood) Howard which occurred at the Loch Lomond Village on Thursday, May 25th, 2017.  Born 1929, in Upham, NB, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Caroline (Steele) Sherwood.  Gladys was a bookkeeper at Hayward & Warwick Ltd., Kincade Rentals, Kinney Shoes Ltd., and Eastern Sign & Display Service Ltd.  She was Vice President and a dedicated volunteer at the Saint John East Food Bank.  Gladys also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, United Church Clothing Depot and Silver Falls United Church where she was a member of the church choir for many years.  Gladys and Eugene loved spending time together at their cottage in Upham.  She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and painting.    

Gladys is survived by her daughters Christine Howard-Connors (Mark) of Saint John, Janice Legere (Alex Halassy) of Quispamsis, Gwen Totten of Saint John; sisters-in-law Colleen Howard and Joy Sherwood; grandchildren Sandra Howard, Amanda Morine, Megan Totten, Josh Legere, Mark Totten; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband H. Eugene Howard, brothers Sterling, Leonard, Arnold, and Fred; sisters Lena Bustin, Beulah Rodgers, and Josephine Donaldson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Monday, May 29th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  A Memorial Service will take place from Silver Falls United Church (840 Loch Lomond Road) on Tuesday, May 30th at 11 a.m. followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Gladys may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or to charity of the donor’s choice.
