George Alexander Douglas

August 27, 1922 ~ April 16, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

It is with heavy hearts the family of George Alexander Douglas, formerly of Loch Lomond, announce his passing which occurred on Sunday, April 16, 2017. George was born August 27, 1922 in Saint John, NB and was a son of the late William and Daisy (Stratton) Douglas.

George and Betty lived most of their married life in Loch Lomond raising their six children. He was very active at their home parish of St. Joseph’s and took pride of being part of the community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 937, RCIA Program at St. Joseph’s and the Silver Links Seniors Group. George loved playing cards, listening to music, attending country jamborees and was a car enthusiast. His greatest joy was his family, there was nothing he loved more than visits from family and friends especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. George was the life of the party never missing a family event, playing the accordion and enjoying a good Hot Dog and half a beer.

He worked for the City of Saint John in the Water and Sewerage Department as a Chlorine Operator for 45 years. In his earlier years, George worked part time at Barry’s General Store.  After retirement George and Betty travelled to Florida and spent many summers at the Narrows. George was a devoted husband to Betty for 73 years, he was a dedicated family man and good friend to many.

George is survived by his sons Robert (Ann Marie), Michael (Lori), daughters Elizabeth Lawton (Kenneth), Carol Morrell (Jack), Mary Kay Ward and Lynn Douglas (Pat Bonner); sister Audrey Howe (John Wilson); sisters-in-law Doreen Holt and Shirley Douglas; brother-in-law George Carvell; thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his sons-in-law Donald Ward and Paul Merritt, brothers William and Lloyd and sister Florence Ross.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joseph’s Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road, on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 12 noon. Followed by a reception in the H.O.P.E. Center.

Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the H.O.P.E. Center or to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
