Fred Bailey Obituary

After a courageous battle with cancer, Donald Frederick “Fred” Spencer Bailey passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018.

Fred was born in Saint John, N.B. on July 8, 1953 to Ruth Priscilla and the late Ames Edmund (Bud) Bailey.

He worked as a Senior Draftsman for Custom Fabricators and Machinists (CFM) before retiring in 2017.  Fred was also a talented musician, playing drums for several bands over the years, most notable the band, ‘Night Shift’.  He was also a long-time season ticket holder for Saint John’s hockey franchises, a love of hockey which he shared with his daughter when she was old enough to attend the games.

Fred was a devoted son, husband, and father and always put his family first. 

Fred will be dearly missed by his wife, Susan (Lee), his daughter, Amelia, and his mother, Ruth Bailey.  He is also survived by 6 brothers-in-law, their wives and families (Mike and Karen, Pat and Cathy, Richard and Marie, James and Cheryl, Greg and Angela, Brian and Katrina), 2 sisters-in-law, their husbands and families (Anna and Rod Lawson, and Mary and Mark Mason), Uncle George and Aunt Emily Windsor, Aunt Jean Sherwood, Cousin Lee Windsor and his wife Cindy Brown, Cousin Heather Windsor and spouse Hand Rhindress.

Fred is predeceased by his father, Ames Edmund (Bud) and infant son, Lee Everett.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation taking place on Tuesday, February 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  A funeral service and reception will be held at Fundy Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 7th at 11 a.m. 

INTERMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT GREENWOOD CEMETERY (1338 SAND COVE RD) ON FRIDAY, JUNE 1ST, 2018 AT 11 A.M. FOR THOSE WHO WISH, A PROCESSION TO THE CEMETERY WILL BE LEAVING FUNDY FUNERAL HOME AT 10:30 A.M. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Fred’s family would like to thank Dr. Michael, Dr. Naz, and the Oncology Dept. of the Saint John Regional Hospital, and especially the Palliative Care Unit and the Pastors of the Spiritual and Religious Care.  Also, many thanks to family, friends, Fred’s former co-workers, neighbours and everyone who gave us support during this difficult time.
