Del Gionet

Dolor “Del” Gionet passed away very peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, May 26th, 2015 after a courageous battle with several health complications.  He was surrounded by his large and loving family until the end.  Born 1936, in Middle Caraquet, NB, he was the son of the late Cesaire and Delima (Lanteigne) Gionet.  Del worked for many years for the Canadian Coast Guard and thoroughly enjoyed travelling with May in his retirement.  He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and large loving family, playing cards, attending family gatherings, and meeting friends for coffee in the mornings. 

Del is survived by his beloved wife May (Gallant) of 52 years; sons Robert (Sue) of Calgary and Mark (Kim) of Saint John; daughter Lisa (Stephen) of Riverview; grandchildren Matthew, Josh, Liam, Abe; great grandchild Nathan; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.  Besides his parents, Del was predeceased by his brothers Omer, Albert, Patrick, Dominique,  Denis, Eddy, Medor and sisters Rita, Francoise and Lauza. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Thursday, May 28th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place from Stella Maris Catholic Church (201 Bayside Drive) on Friday, May 29th at 12:05 p.m. followed by an interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Del may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
