David G. Pitt

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of David Gordon Pitt which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, October 17th, 2016.  Born 1951, in Saint John, he was the son of the late Gordon and Marion (Henderson) Pitt.  David worked for NBTel for 25 years before retiring in 2000.  He loved history and always had a keen interest in the history of Saint John, Grand Bay and the Navy.  David loved woodworking and he had a passion for building things for people and making them smile.  He loved watching movies and was very good at baking peanut butter balls.  Everyone knew David as “Mr. Christmas”.  His decorating skills far exceeded anyone else’s.  David remained positive throughout his illness, always cracking jokes and making people laugh.  He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody. 

David is survived by his loving wife Joanne (Darrah) Pitt of Nerepis; step-children Cory Gibbons (Jodi) of Calgary, Rheanne Veazey (Beau) of Broussard, Louisiana, Jillian Zwicker (Brandon) of Chicoutimi, Quebec; sister Margo Wilkins (David) of Public Landing; step-grandchildren Kaleb, John, Brynn, Tony, Reggie, Piper, Dylan, and Cohen; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of the Saint John Regional Hospital Oncology Unit (5AS) and Palliative Care Unit (3BN) for their kindness and compassion. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Thursday, October 20th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  A Funeral Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Friday, October 21st at 11 a.m. followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.  Donations in David’s memory may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Oncology Unit or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
