David Brookins

July 27, 1945 ~ September 20, 2016 (age 71) 71 Years Old

“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.”
                                                                     - Robert H. Schuller

The death of David Brookins occurred at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, NB on September 20, 2016 at the age of 71.  Born in Saint John on July 27, 1945, he was the son of the late G. Frederick and Norma L. (Chamberlain) Brookins.

After graduating from the University of New Brunswick in Arts and Education, he began a 33 year teaching career in East Saint John, primarily at Bayside Middle School.  A great believer in quietly supporting the Arts, David worked for many years with other volunteers on the Saint John Arts Council, including a term as president.  As well, he was the co-chairman of the New Brunswick Art Rental and Sales Service for a number of years.  Working with a group of friends, he was excited to be a part of the committee which originally established the Rothesay Craft Festival held each summer on the Rothesay Common.  Working with this committee helped to develop his support of the visual arts.  As well, he was a member of the Arts sub-committee of the Saint John Bi-Centennial Committee.

David is survived by his Aunt Vicki (the late George) Chamberlain of Sarnia, ON, an Uncle Jack Chamberlain of Saint John, several cousins, friends and his much loved “Girls” – Katie, Missy and Zoe.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  At the request of the deceased, his body has been donated to the Dalhousie University Department of Medicine.  A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 30, at 2pm from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (31 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay, NB) with a reception to follow.  Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
