Welcome to the memorial page for

Burton James Waddell

April 23, 1937 ~ November 13, 2016 (age 79) 79 Years Old

It is with heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of Burton James Waddell, loving husband of 59 years to Margaret (Lamb) Waddell, which occurred on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in 1937 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Ralph and Agnes (Patterson) Waddell.

He worked for NB Tel his entire career, retiring in 1994, which allowed him to pursue his hobbies.  Burt was an avid hunter who looked forward, every year, to spending time with his buddies at the hunting camp in Belleisle.  Through the years he enjoyed spending time in his travel trailer at his favorite campsites, but more recently he began travelling to Florida and Cuba and Nashville with Margie.  He was a member of the Rockwood Park Golf Course, which was a great hobby, even if not his greatest skill.  He was a devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan and he adored harness racing with his sweet horse Saulsbrook Dandy.  Above all, he loved to spend time with his family and his family loved to spend time with him.  Burt was “Papa” to so many people, and he will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Scott Waddell and his daughter Trudy Fram, both of Saint John, his brother Eldon (Vina) of Ottawa, ON,  5 adored grandchildren; Shyla, Christopher, Cassandra, Alecia and Derek, 3 great-grandchildren;  Lexus, Jace and Josie, his canine companion Dipp along with nieces and nephews and dear friends.

The Waddell family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Palliative Care and Orthopedic Units, Jane Boyd-Aucoin from the Cardiac Care Clinic, and Dr. Gregory Searles at the Saint John Regional Hospital, along with family doctor, Dr. Keith Wilson for the care and compassion shown to Burt, and all the guidance provided to him during the last of his living days.

Following cremation, visitation will be held at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  A Memorial Service will be held at Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
