It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bruce Alexander Peacock announce his peaceful passing on March 21, 2017 at Kennebec Manor.  Bruce was born in Saint John, NB in 1924, to the late D. Alex and Blanche (McKay) Peacock and was the loving husband of the late Shirley (Hickman) Peacock (2015).

Bruce and his wife Shirley owned Peacocks Garden Center, and together they were Saint John’s answer when it came to all things gardening until they closed the doors in 2005.  What Bruce didn’t know about gardening just wasn’t worth knowing.  He was a weekly guest on CBC radio’s “Rolling Home Show” and gave tips to the callers regarding gardening and was quite popular because of his knowledge and patience and ability to teach anyone.   Bruce was, for all intents and purposes, a self-taught man, and was as smart as they come.  He loved words; “You like that word? It’s yours” he was known for saying.  He was so much more than a gardener though.  He owned several boats and he and his family would go sailing as members of the RKYC, and he was a member of the Saint John Power Boat Club. He had his pilot’s licence and flew with the Saint John Flying Club, was an avid hunter and fisher, owned and operated a gun shop, a swimming pool business, was an amateur photographer who liked to develop his own black and white photos, along with being a very talented wood worker who built a beautiful cabin, from frame to cabinets.  Trips to that cabin with his family were very much adored; especially when his grandchildren came along.  He was a soft spoken, kind man known for his stories, and his ability to talk; he loved to talk – to his family, friends, radio call in guests, shop visitors and frequent greenhouse guests.  Bruce was a wonderful artist, telling stories with his pictures that he left everywhere for people to find and laugh over.  He was a knowledgeable man, who carried himself with a quiet grace and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his three children; Robert, Anne Marks (Rick) and Sandra Keith (Cory), all of Saint John, his 6 precious grandchildren; Jessica, Benjamin, David, Stephen, Emily and Rachel, as well as many friends.  Along with his wife Shirley and his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his brother George in 1979.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm.  A funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 2pm.  Donations in Bruce’s memory made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.  We’ll miss you and your stories Bruce
