Arthur Lorraine Sprague

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Arthur Lorraine Sprague which occurred on August 15th, 2017 at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Nursing Home with his family at his side. Born on December 25, 1928 in Saint John, Arthur was the son of the late Albert and Mabel (Lawton) Sprague.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Arthur was always happiest when his great-grandchildren came to visit.  Arthur will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Margaret (Buck) Sprague, his children; Susan Fraser (Murray) of Saint John, Janet Armstrong (Paul) of Fall River, N.S, Shelley Haslett (Keith) of Bradenton, Florida, Glendon of Saint John and Diane Bonnell of Saint John. His grandchildren; Trevor Hickey (Melissa), Andrea Hickey, Sarah Hickey (Tim), Amy Westfield (Kirk), Craig Armstrong (Toni), Kristin Armstrong (Brett), Derek Perry, Kaitlin Perry, Brandon Sprague (Leslie), Brittany Sprague, Eric Bonnell and Travis Bonnell. Great-grandchildren; Renee, Daryl, Emmett, Landon, Neely, Hunter, Braydon, Chase, Dawson, Ellie, Cecilia and Carter. 

Arthur is the last surviving member of his immediate family.  Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Doreen Beyea and son-in-law and best friend, Daryl Hickey.

Arthur was employed by Lawton’s Plumbing and Heating Ltd. He was a lifetime member of Local 213 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, retiring in 1988.  He was an active member of All Saints Anglican Church, serving on the vestry for many years and as a member of the church choir.  Arthur was well versed in history and loved to tell a great story. 

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday from 2-8pm.  A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 2pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel.  A private family interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.  The Sprague family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Nursing home for the care given to Arthur.  Memorial donations may be made to the Saint John SPCA or the charity of the donor’s choice.
